TMAU & bb
TMAU & bb
I'm confused about this issue can Tmau cause ONLY bb or does it cause bb AND bo.
I've read conflicting info about this how is it possible to have this condition but not have smelly skin, armpits, urine, vagina, or feet. I mean i literally never get musty. My #2's dont even smell as bad when im on heavy probiotics. I just want info on the science behind only having bb with tmau. I saw the youtube video on this w/ Karen James and i did catch her say her tmau MOSTLY is emanated from the breath which is extremely dfferent than ONLY.
It can cause both (perhaps either?)
Consider that your lungs can act similar to how the skin does in removing toxins. Basically, TMAU will expel itself using the body's own toxin removing systems. Urine, lungs, skin, etc. Trimethylamine can't be broken down, so it's coming out through these detoxifying systems of the body.
Maybe some people only have a touch of it, so maybe it's only detectable in their breath.. Others might have a big problem with it.
Like your breath, if you have TMAU, you won't be able to detect your own scent.
I think I see what you're asking... like can you have TMAU in your breath only, or perhaps only in your skin and not your breath... I'm not sure. I imagine it comes out through the skin, lungs, etc, for everyone, but those with only a small TMAU problem may only find that their breath stinks.... I don't know the answer.

Malory has been diagnosed with TMAU and his/her only problem is bad breath.
Like mike has pointed out, we're all different. How TMAU manifests itself depends on so many different factors. There's lots of different reasons why we might find ourselves with elevated levels of TMA in our bloodstream. Defective genes/enzymes, our diet or disturbed microbial flora because of antibiotics, digestive defects and diseases, even hormonal imbalances.
For any given amount of TMA that gets absorbed into our bloodstream, we'll all secrete it differently and in different proportions. For some people it will be predominantly though the skin, for others, the lungs. TMA also gets secreted in saliva and mucus, so for some this may be the only factor affecting them.
Remember that at low levels, the chemical trimethylamine can smell anywhere between rotting garbage, burning rubber, fecal and dirty socks. And having this type of secondary TMAU can go undiagnosed because a positive TMAU diagnosis requires passing a threshold value which you might not pass with secondary TMAU, unlike in cases of primary TMAU, which usually involves a genetic cause responsible for defective or missing enzymes, in which case the levels of TMA involved are higher, and higher levels of TMA tend to smell more like rotting fish.

thanks guys for chiming in with possible theories i still believe i have a better chance of having hpylori or parasites than tmau. i went back and read malory's posts and she stated that she did have armpit odor and that her tmau was 'predominately' in her bb. its the word play and conflicting info out there that is so confusing. i do think tmau can be 'dominate' in bb making us overlook other seemingly unrelated even controllable odor issues.
yes. i guess its like various people eating onion or something. Some will excrete odor from the groin or both pits or 1or mouth, whole body,feet..etc . it differs .hali_grl wrote:thanks guys for chiming in with possible theories i still believe i have a better chance of having hpylori or parasites than tmau. i went back and read malory's posts and she stated that she did have armpit odor and that her tmau was 'predominately' in her bb. its the word play and conflicting info out there that is so confusing. i do think tmau can be 'dominate' in bb making us overlook other seemingly unrelated even controllable odor issues.
When i chatted with Malory i found we both have odor from 1 armpit mostly ,so i was like
Without means to lab testing ,have you tried a high choline diet and asking your BF if there is a change ?
i was at the store last night in the self check out line (love those things) . A large white guy next to me smelled Powerful of like old sweat, skunk ,and maybe a drinking binge the day before without a shower like a homeless person might . He was over weight but not dirty when i looked at him . His smell was Pungent even from 10+ feet away .
I can assume others were trying not to look at him and bear it till he was out the door but i was openly curious and really wanted to ask something ,just not sure what i'd have said. From where i stood his clothes ,socks and shoes looked clean but the smell was like wet dog that just reveled in skunk juice . It really seemed like a good shower would solve it all . But what if he was clean ? tmau ? This is what i really wanted to ask . Like When my Parent asked if i had brushed my teeth due to BB...and I had .
I pray this guys odor wasn't akin to my own odor

Exactly. If we all had an excess of trimethylamine in our bloodstream, we'd all be affected differently in terms of how the odour would get released from our body.deebo wrote:i guess its like various people eating onion or something. yes. i know some folks whos sweat Never smells bad and no bb, but when they poop, its Reeks to high heavens even after eating the same as me for days .halitosisux wrote:Exactly. For sure each person processes stuff slightly different . i just heard someone talking about the % of our selves being other bugs ,microbes , Bactria and such . oh here its Sal Khan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDoGrbpJJ14
so about 10% of our mass is "other" . The variation between those bugs & bacteria make a huge difference in what goes on(& in) from person to person .
my paternal grandmother god rest her soul passed away awhile ago of colon cancer and she had bb though not as powerful as mine hers didn't smell rottening or like fecal (i really don't know how my smell comes across) but like sour dry mouth. she passed when i was 10yrs old i dont know if her bb was bad all her life or just bc of old age & medicine making her mouth dry or digestive disturbances hence the colon cancer. are GI issues inherited? also my paternal little cousin has armpit odors she had to start wearing deodorant at about 4 yrs old. no one else in my family has odor issues.

Hali_grl, curing TMAU could come from a number of very likely and feasible possibilities. The most likely is genetically modified bacteria that produce the enzyme that our liver is failing to produce which would normally neutralize the TMA in our gut. That TMA would then get neutralized before it even gets into the bloodstream. I dont think you can kill any specific bacteria at the moment because they are probably all responsible for producing TMA. But reducing the overall numbers of bacteria in the gut does work for some people with TMAU.
Another very likely possibility in the very forseeable future, is some form of gene therapy, which would give the body the ability to produce the missing enzymes and prevent a buildup of TMA. The good thing about this is that if there are other forms of bloodborne odour caused by missing or defective enzymes, they can also be cured in the same way.
Another potential cure could come from supplements we take with our food that can effectively mop up and absorb the TMA produced in the gut. Charcoal does this, but there's potential for far more effective materials to do this job far more effectively.

As far as I know, parts of DNA can be taken from one organism and implanted into the DNA of other organism. This is how some vaccines are made. This kind of technology is tightly regulated and controlled because nobody really knows where this is all going to lead.
If scientists had their way we could have cures for every disease in existence, but just one mistake and you could wipe out all life on Earth.
Also, whoever manages to target bad breath in this way could also manage to wipe out the entire fresh breath industry. The finances and the resources to do this kind of research will likely come from the companies who have a stake in this industry. That's probably why it doesnt happen, and we're left with lame approaches like using probiotics that are supposedly beneficial, but in practice they don't seem to be.
