Sorry to hear you're still having pain. I'm doing better than before. I went back to work last Tuesday. Since going off the antibiotics, I'm having a bit of a fever and low energy. Taking tylenol for the scratchy throat and fever. Nice to be off the narcotic drugs. Scabs keep coming off in pieces while sleeping. I would expect some bb until fully healed. I think my bb is better now. I'm still drinking cappuccinos and not getting the usual bb taste from it later on.

Nice to hear that things are going well for you anyway. I still struggle on. I caught a cold now, so now it's even worse. Keep you posted

Did you get prescribed an antibiotic? If not you should ask your doctor. That would give you a better chance at beating the bb if your mouth starts with a clean slate once the tonsils are removed. I would think it would speed healing too.

It is very hard and get antibiotics printed here. I hate the doctors in this country. I'm still cold and not completely well from the surgery yet. How are things going with you?

Hope you're feeling better, MP. I've got a little soreness left at the base of the tongue and tonsil area. Yawning still hurts a bit. I'm off tylenol now.

There's still some white scar tissue left in the tonsil area that needs to finish healing. Once that's done I can better assess how much of the bb is gone. My tongue is staying pink even in the back so I'm optimistic.

What would you tell the Dr the antibiotics are for ? The tonsil infection ? As you know , there are hundreds of type of antibiotics . Many members have found that improper use of antibiotics may have worsened or caused their bb .

If you plan on getting scrips of antibios ,i'd suggest telling him they are to help reduce /beat BB . He should like to run tests. Keep in mind , the course to bring down swollen or infected tonsil scars will be Different than the course to kill bacteria or whatever causes your BB .

At least in the US, it's standard procedure to give antibiotics after surgery, especially after removing something as germ-filled as tonsils. I was given amoxicilin. It's nasty stuff, that's why I'm eating yogurt afterwards to regain balance.

Amoxicilin and metronidazole together are the recommended protocol for stopping gingivitis, so they're a good choice for oral bacteria and bb. I tried them in the past but they stopped the bb only as long as I took them. Then the tonsils reinfected my mouth. It's good to have the tonsils out.

Don't forget to floss

Post by hope4now »

3 week update: I had not been flossing after the surgery because it was too hard to open my mouth. I was just using a water jet or a water pik. Yesterday I flossed and the floss smelled bad. It didn't smell as bad as tonsil stones, more like cauterized tissue. I think the smell was from the cauterized tonsil wounds healing. The water jet wasn't doing a good enough job cleaning the gum line. So now I'm flossing in the morning and evening and the smell is gone.

I'm almost 100% healed. Still a little sore while yawning. Still feel something scratchy on each side near the base of the tongue.

I am healthy from the surgery now. My bad breath has improved a lot but I'm certainly not cured. I do not regret the surgery, it's the best I've done and I recommend anyone who has bad breath surgery to remove them. You could say that my breath is 70% better now

4 week update: Still waiting for area around back of tongue to completely heal (where the tongue meets the tonsil area.) It's still white there. Gargling with saline solution to help with that. My tongue stays pink all day now. Some bb left, but at least 50% better as far as I can tell.

Glad to hear you're better MissPretty.
