Post by sallybb »

SORRY ITS LONG BUT I BEG YOU - PLEASEE READ.

Hey guys. Im a newbie to this site and i'd just like to share my story and see if anyone can shed any light on my situation at all.. any input would be greatly appreciated.

when I was 13 i noticed i had bad breath ( i cant remember exactly what happend etc.) all i know is i started chewing gum ALL the time. and this worked ... for about 1.5 years! so that was great!! but then one day.. i noticed the chewie didnt taste good anymore and i don't know but ever since then (I am now 19) i have had chronic bad breath every minute of my life! there is no relief.

I have tried MANY MANY things.. e.g. Kforce, Therabreath, Breezecare, Biotene, home remedies and other products that i can't remember the names of.

My symptoms are: (keep in mind these are just all the things that i notice in my mouth, i have no idea if they are the cause of my BB)

-Whenever i brush my teeth i have a lot of flem at the back of my throat that i can just keep spitting out
-yuk taste in my mouth most of the time
-sometimes my mouth feels dry
-dry lips sometimes

My tounge is always pretty pink though.

My teeth brushing regiem at the moment consists of:

-Brush normally with Colgate
-Brush tongue with special brush Colgate
-scrape tongue
-Brush with baking soda
-Rinse with 100% lemon juice
-floss

For the last week and a half i also cut out dairy - thought i may aswell try it.. had no results so i have started earing it again... I'm just wondering though, should i have kept going for longer??

also what are some dairy foods i shouldnt be eating because i cut out the obvious but i think i may still be eating some and not realising.

anyway any help.. or anyone who can relate to this i would love a reply and appreciate it so much..

also how do u no if you have PND??

thanks so much :( its such a horrible time in my life

the fact thaat your tongue is pink, makes me think you could just be dehydrated. I think for most young people we re just not interested in water. When I was your age I would go 3-4 days without a cup of water
I think something that could help you is go and get a really cute cup, if you have a fancy water cup youll be more likely to drink more and take it out with you. Every night put it in fridge, and in the morning youll have nice crisp, water. You may want to buy gallons of spring water from store, youll drink more if it tastes better
Water from my faucet tastes like chemicals
You'll notice even your morning breath is improved if you drink through the night.
You could have some leakagefrom cracked fillings, or some pockets of bacteria. You should floss your teeth and then smell the floss, this will let you know if the smell is coming from 1 or any of your teeth. If you do find that a tooth is the culprit get it fixed immediately
I let a rooten tooth sit in my mouth for years, and all those bad bacteria and fumes messed up my oral flora
Good news is no tongue coating. It may be a good idea to GENTLY scrape the very back of your tongue. But dont do too much, it could make matters worse.
Dont let yourself get constipated

Hi meowkity1

thanks so much for your reply! I really appreciate it.

unfortunately I do drink 2 litres of water a day and have done for the last 3 or so years (with the odd exceptions ofcourse).

I also have tried the floss thing and smelling it etc. but havent noticed anyting! I might try again though. I do have a few fillings.. 3 from when i was really young and one i got just recently.

I do scarpe my tongue alot.. do you think i do it too much??

thanks again xxx

I think you should take an oral chromatography test.It will help identify the correct level of the 3 main volatile sulfur compounds responsible for bb.If I remember correctly, hydrogen sulfide & m.mercaptan can be treated with zinc. Dimethyl sulfide is the hardest to treat.
A halimeter test is inaccurate because it underestimates MM by about 31% & it underestimates DMS by 70%.

It`s available in breath clinics. It`s better to call them first to make sure they have the oral chroma test.

Sally looks like you have PND... the fact that you can spit mucus out of your mouth all the time seems like you have allergies. That also gives you the nasty feeling in the back of your mouth. Atleast thats what i got.. I know i am allergic to dust and pollen and everytime i wake up i can push some mucus from back of my mouth out and its greenish , yellowish. I would suggest you go to ENT and have them check your sinuses. If they say you have sinus porblems its hard to cure it , they will give you antibiotics but those can kill all your bacteria in the stomach and you can get even worse problems. I think thats what happend to me. GL
