My wife has insisted for years that the problem is in my head, and I am starting to believe her. When I have one of those freak-out moments, I ask her what it smells like, and she says, "orange juice" or "like nothing" or faintly like whatever I ate or drank most recently. In my head, though, I am thinking it is horribly bad and everyone in the room knows that.

So I am starting to believe her. I know that I sometimes have a dry mouth, because my physician says so, and that might be causing me some worry at the moment.

Within the past couple of weeks, I started using Biotene and I brush/floss every day, and I see the dentist twice a year. For me at least, the Biotene seems to be working and keeping my mouth wet inside -- much more so than any other mouthwash or even going without a mouthwash. I did have a tonsillectomy almost 10 years ago to get rid of recurring tonsil stones, and I know that it was a success because I haven't had one since the surgery. So now, I wonder if my paranoia is built around the awful problems I experienced for years tasting and smelling the tonsil stones. It was bad, and I know it was causing me breath problems then.

I realize this is my situation and others have varying problems and causes. I wish all of you the best in finding the cures. In no way is this post meant as a gloat, because I can't say that I am 100% cured. Still, in my head, my reality occasionally tells me that it is awful. But those moments are happening less frequently these days. I think I am closer than ever at getting over it.

paranoia ??

Post by deebo »

I quote the Late Kurt Cobain ,who said "Just because you're paranoid ,don't mean they're not after you ."
I too have had people test my breath , I breathed right in my docs face ! She said my breath smells totally normal . As soon as I feel a bit confident , some stranger covers their face to avoid another whiff of my breath . In fact it took me a long time to figure out that people were talking about my BB. Its the oddest thing . People for some reason just don't tell us to our face . Its becoming kind of funny to me now.

There is another poster on this site who thinks his neighbors could smell his bb from the other room . Thats paranoid. That doesn't help anyone . But on the other hand ,having BB and thinking your breath is fine doesn't either.

Its only proof that our breath isn't Bad all the time .We need to know what causes it and what helps . I for 1 know salivating helps a lot for me and I will try the Biotene 'dry mouth' paste to see if it helps matters. Thanks

I think most of us dont always have BB, so not knowing and basing every interaction on those time we do have BB is the paranoia. So its not only the people who have No BB and just think they do who have Halitophobia . Its people with occasional BB or even us folks with chronic BB who can present halitophobia .

Dry mouth: I have exactly the same thing since I have social anxiety . You get that 'frog in the throat' can't swallow , and really don't want to speak . Mouth dries up and then youre sure your BB will be in full force. I know. Even water really doesn't keep the mouth wet very long. I wont even get into PND .

It seems to me that when I have a wet throat (not just mouth) I never get BB bad looks from people . When my gum runs out of flavor , I get dry mouth and throat, a sure sign of BB.

I just started using the biotene gum, and paste now. Its supposed to help with salivation and good oral enzyme balance . So far I don't see much of a change from regular gum and paste but I'm hoping the enzymes will start doing their job over time.

biotene

Post by deebo »

I know what you mean Desp919.
Anxiety give me a "frog in the throat" big time.
About the Biotene though . It really seems to be working. I got the spray ,the paste and the non-alcohol wash . I swish with the wash after every meal, When I wake , before bed for at least 3 minutes . I made sure to tilt back my head and do the 'Ahhh' to get my throat and in tonsils. In the last week I have spit out 3 !! Yes 3 tonsil stones . I would have pics but that would be gross even here.

I think the biotene breaks down the substrate for the stones and other stinky stuff to stick to and grow on. So i pushed the stones out Easily .And then biotene helps me salivate and doesn't dry my thoat out. I try to use the mouth spray before I go anywhere or when I dont feel a wet throat. I've actually been testing my breath on strangers . Its hard to break the habits on facing down when i talk, but I try to speak directly at people to see if my breath is good . There a have been 4 times in the last month that people have actualy turned their heads to avoid my breath , so it becomes a habit not to face people when i talk . But I'm trying.

I've also been using "oralbiotic" BLIS k12 ,but i dont know if that has helped my bb but pretty sure it doesnt hurt anything but my checkbook. The seller accidentally sent me an extra bottle so I can't complain .

Do you snore and still have tonsils ? Both for me. Me right tonsil is the only 1 that gets stones. I dont think they are the only bb cause but I take them as a sign that bb is there. Ok , I could write more but I'm sure I'm boring people. I'll answer any questions tho.

deebo, how long have you been trying the blis K-12?
Do you mainly have type 1 BB?
Have you ever been able to get any kind of explanation as to the cause of your dry mouth?

BB TYPES ??

Post by deebo »

halitosisux wrote: Do you mainly have type 1 BB?
I'm very interested in knowing what the numbered types of BB there are .

I am guessing that I may have more than on type. Anxiety causes dry mouth
and I have that. Also I have sinus issues and PND, using a netipot and flonase for that. the k-12 blis when i remember to take it ,is used before bed ,or I pop 1 in wen getting up at nite to use the bathroom . I pop it in and let it sit in my mouth while I sleep. Again , not sure if it really helps.

I've been trying to clean the mouth /throat before using probiotics .

The neti pot seems to help too with pnd . I've upped it to 1 warm bottle per
nostril and try to let it run out my mouth as well as the other nostril.
