my update: nose odor and dr. katz

Post by sweets07 »

i've been using crest prohealth to brush my teeth and tongue (with the Tung brush) twice a day, flossing every night, and rinsing with dioxirinse twice a day.

lately though it seems like people have been smelling my bb when i'm just breathing thru my nose. a couple weeks ago one friend even said that it smelled like 'stank breath' when i was standing near her, mouth closed, not saying anything. she kinda made a face like i shouldn't have said that cuz she knows about my issue even though we've never discussed it.

also earlier this week, i got on the bus when i had a sore throat/cold and the people around me were all reacting to a smell coming from my breathing especially when i breathed harder.

i went to the ent this morning to schedule my tonsilectomy and told him what had been happening. he said my ct scan was clear (my sinuses are fine), and that when you have bb it comes out whenever you breathe, nose or mouth, and that is not unusual for bb suffers w/ no sinus issues.

after that i decided to give up on my current mouthwash, dioxirinse, which is really just bleach. i'm convinced it is useless for me at this point and only makes my breath worse (probably a stale, poor oral hygiene smell that eventually leads back to fecal).

so i went to the store and bought perioxicare from the dr. katz line , but the ingredients i thought might help rinse out the debris and vsc's left over from brushing. i rinsed with 1/2 a cup, flossed, and then rinsed with another 1/2 cup. it burned, but not bad enough to not use it. that nasty fish smell i detected on my breath previous to rinsing was gone and the remaining white stuff on my tongue dissolved all the way to the back of my tongue. just GONE. who knows if this rinse will help socially. all i know is i'm not using dioxirinse anymore.

the problem with any of these rinses is that they will work for some period of time before the bacteria come back stronger and more resistant.

Then when you stop using the product, you've got extra strong bacteria in your mouth.

No rinse is a cure.. After having your tonsils removed and if your problem still persists (hopefully not as bad) then maybe go ahead and use a rinse.. But maybe alternate between two or three different products so the bacteria can't adapt as easily.

hey i'm pretty sure we're suffering from the same thing, because i have the exact same problem. i close my mouth but people react around me, either by chewing gum or touching their noses. and yes i've heard others commenting on how "someone's" breath stinks. i use smartmouth, which is probably similar to dioxirinse in its mechanism of action. funny thing is, i didn't have this problem before using smartmouth. now it doesn't matter whether i use smartmouth, as it's permanently coming out thru my nose.

please update us on whether your regimen works. it's especially hard for me to concentrate in my classes when people react, even though i'm just sitting there with my mouth closed.

i actually agree with you. when i alternate, i get almost no bad breath for a couple days before it comes back... it's simple natural selection.

yeah i guess i forgot to mention the part where i broke down crying in the ent's office. it's been a rough week watching people reacting to my bb thru my nose. i walk around holding my breath now and i'm literally suffocating on elevators and buses now. it's both ridiculous and humiliating, but i'm so paranoid about people smelling my bb, i literally can't breathe even when i try to now in those situations.

but i cried when the ent asked how i was doing cuz i wanted to give up on school and life in general. then i remember how many friends i had and people that cared about me and i realized, if they are still around then my problem hasn't reached that point where i need to become a hermit. all i can say now is i'm just embarrassed. it's so sad, but life could be worse.

for me, dioxirinse doesn't do enough on its own. Neither does therabreath. My breath takes on a new offensive odor if I use either alone.

Till this day, the best combo for me is both. I rinse with dioxirinse first, then use therabreath.

Have you guys tried rubbing Tea Tree oil in your nose??? I put a little on a Q-tip with a couple drops of water to dilute it, then rub it in my nose. It's not a cure, but may help to mask it so that the reactions aren't so dramatic and, in turn, hurtful for you.

Also, if you know for sure that the smell is coming from your nose I would definitly try the sinus irregation kit by Grossan. You could put a few drops of grapefruit seed extract in that and see if it helps. http://www.alerg.com/page/A/PROD/SST/SS ... OAodeBfeEQ The only thing is, it's expensive.

Aslo, have you tried saline solutions??? They are cheap ($1) Again, not a cure, but may cut the smell down a little. You definitly need to use this if you use the irregation kit because it can dry your nose out.

I bought my kit after I stopped working as a teacher. My students were the ones who told me (one way or another) if my breath smelled on a daily basis, so now it's hard to tell what is working or not working. I feel like the kit helped, I just need to be less lazy and use it everyday.

thanx guys for the advice. this week i hit rock bottom cuz i'm a very social person and this paranoia about bb coming from my nose has been devastating. i couldn't even get out of bed on sunday morning. i'm actually thinking i'm going to see a doctor about whether or not i'm clinically depressed. pray for me guys. i've never let y bb get me this down or keep my from social situations.

this was my problem from the beggining. I'd be grateful if it just came out of my mouth (: ): . anyways i feel bad that you are in your situation and this happens. can you tell me any changes you did? did you start using some kind of tongue brush? i don't see how just using some mouth washes can make it come out of your nose.

my advice is breath relax, the harder and more aware you become the worse the smell will be. tensing up or holding your breath will make it worse, trust me. the tension will cause constriction and press the smell out even more. i know it's hard feeling that way, being relaxed is the only way and realize one day it will end.

for me the fecal smell seems to be coming from my left nostril, my right nostril isn't nearly as bad. i have a messed up where sometimes one nostril breaths only, if it's my left nostril then it can fill up my room, outside, other rooms, etc..

i'm going to make a poll to see how many people actually have the bad smell from their nose compared to the mouth. maybe it will shed some light on something.

one more thing, see if your oral bb stayed the same or gotten better.

Greenman is seems that you may want ENT to check your sinuses for polyps or infection. Have you gone to ENT yet?
